old dubai
This piece depicts Old Dubai. The colour palette was derived directly from my own photographs of the buildings and surroundings in Old Dubai. The piece has many layers of abstract art, islamic patterns, Collaged are my own images of Old Dubai Architecture and overlayed is the map of the Dubai Creek, while the final layer is traditional Arabic calligraphy.

new dubai
This piece is connected with the previous piece titled Old, whereas this one depicts New Dubai. The colour palette was also derived directly from my own photographs of the buildings and surroundings in New Dubai. The piece has many layers of abstract art, islamic patterns, Collaged are my own images of New Dubai Architecture and overlayed is the map of the Downtown Dubai and the Palm Jumeirah, while the final layer is traditional Arabic calligraphy. ‘Old’ and ‘New’ both have a similar visual appearance and composition, however they represent 2 different eras. The change in the colour pallete shows the vibrancy that is in New Dubai, whereas the muted colors in ‘Old’ depict the tradition and culture that is prevalent there.

After doing an artist study on Shurooq Amin and an analysis of her work "Society Girls”, I was inspired to create my own piece inspired by her, exploring femininity, romance, and luxury through traditional women in the UAE. The Niqab is used in Islam to cover the woman and conceal her beauty, however the woman’s beauty is still seen through her eyes and her luxuries are seen in her jewelry and scarf. On top of the painting is an Arabic love poem by Nizar Qabbani..

Growing up in Dubai, I was surrounded by peers who enjoyed immense wealth and luxury. Many of these "rich kids" spent extravagantly on high-end brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci, mainly to flaunt their status on social media. However, their spending was often reckless and impulsive. This painting explores the idea that "money cannot buy happiness" in a city where many affluent youths are unhappy despite their riches. I depicted myself falling out of a Rolls Royce, surrounded by luxury handbags, shopping bags, and scattered money, to illustrate this theme.

Most Dubai residents are aware of the "massage card phenomenon" where cars parked for a short time end up covered in cards advertising massage centers with images of scantily clad women. My friends and I initially collected them as a joke, but later discovered these cards were part of a secret prostitution ring in Dubai, with some women being forced into it. Despite Dubai's reputation for safety and low crime rates, I wanted to raise awareness of this issue. Inspired by Mohammad Rawas, my composition uses these cards as a base and depicts women from various art movements (Pinup, Anime, Contemporary) to show that all women are affected. The skyline and Lamborghini represent Dubai's desired image, while the surrounding elements reveal what is concealed by the media and government.
